naukri.com parent company Info Edge has announced Q1 profits after tax of 173 million INR compared to 133 million INR in the first quarter of 2009 – an increase of 30 percent.

This increase follows on from a 6.2 percent rise in profits recorded for the last quarter of 2009. The company’s total income for Q1 was 724 million INR, which is up 17 percent compared last year’s corresponding quarter.

“The business environment especially for hiring and real estate continues to improve, leading to a spike in the top line,” explained Ambarish Raghuvanshi, the company’s CFO and director. “The lead indicators e.g. business confidence, GDP, Naukri Job Speak Index are all up which augurs well for our businesses.”

As The Economic Times reports, there has been a reshuffle in Info Edge’s top management positions. The board has moved current COO Hitesh Oberoi to the managing director and CEO roles, in place of Sanjeev Bikhchandani.

Bikhchandani will now work as executive vice chairman of the company. Raghuvanshi’s role will also change to that of group president of finance as well as CFO.

India-based technology jobs website gild.com has now passed the 15,000 registered candidates mark, just over two months since its launch.

gild.com, which went live in late April, offers job listings along with free certifications and competitions that highlight winning candidates.

The website was created by the Professional Aptitude Council, which provides standardised examinations to evaluate candidates and current employees.

So far, gild.com has managed to attract employers including including Oracle, IBM, salesforce.com, Mindtree, and United Health Group.

These employers are charged on a subscription basis. gild.com CEO Sheeroy Desai tells jobsportalwatch.com that the details of these subscriptions are not being made public at this stage.

The website is currently targeting the Indian market, however Desai says there are plans to take the website global soon.

naukri.com’s June JobSpeak Index is up again, showing Indian hiring activity grew by a huge 21 percent year-on-year.

This jump follows four months of growth tracked by the Index, giving weight to naukri.com’s latest advertising campaign, which claims “jobs are back” in India.

As ndtv.com reports, the Index is up to 947 for June, compared to 784 in June 2009. However, this total is not quite up to the high seen in April when the Index hit 1019 – the highest total since July 2008.

naukri.com chief operating officer Hitesh Oberoi told ndtv.com that he expects to see even more hiring in the second half of 2010, “indicated by the increased GDP figures of the country.”

jobsdb.com has just unveiled a website redesign that includes a map-based job search option.

The jobsdb.com network covers ten countries across the Asia-Pacific region along with the US and Australia. Its new Google Maps-based search displays jobs as icons that can be clicked to bring up further details:

A new “dashboard” design has also been implemented, allowing job seekers and employers to perform multiple tasks on a single page.

“Through a split-screen display, named ‘Preview Mode’, jobseekers can view up to 100 job templates on the same page,” jobsdb.com explains. “Likewise, in ‘Resume Preview’, employers can open up to 100 brief or full resumes and process them under the same user-friendly design.”

jobsdb.com says we can expect the launch of its new recruitment management system and additional website features in July.

jobsdb.com was founded in 1998 and now employs over 1,800 staff. The network says it has over 140,000 corporate clients and 8 million job seeker members.

Free-to-list classifieds website OLX has just launched a new version of its website for the Sri Lankan market.

OLX, which lists jobs as well as real estate, personals, and items for sale, operates in over 92 countries and 41 languages. olx.lk has been launched in English, but the company says it plans to offer local languages soon. A mobile version of the website is also available at http://m.olx.lk.

“Though use is still in the early stage with a five to six percent penetration rate of Internet users among the total population of 21 million Sri Lankans, mobile penetration has crossed 81 percent with about 17 million mobile subscribers already,” explains Fabrice Grinda, Co-CEO and co-founder of OLX.

“We aim to see the Sri Lankan populace leverage the power of the Internet and mobile and embrace OLX to buy, sell or trade locally with ease.”

Along with its own portals, OLX also powers the classifieds sections of websites such as Hi5, Friendster, Live Journal, and Sonico.

The company was first founded in 2006 and now has has more than 140 employees across offices in Argentina, the US, Russia, China, Brazil and India.

Job search engine Simply Hired has deepened its integration with Facebook, launching what it describes as “the first personalised job search.”

Now, job seekers in the US, Canada, Australia, India and the UK who are logged in to Facebook will be able to see Simply Hired listings based on where their Facebook friends work. From the search results page, users will also be able to privately message friends about job opportunities.

This latest integration with Facebook comes soon after Simply Hired added the Facebook Connect function in late April. The following video outlines how the new Facebook-based job search works:

JobStreet’s 2009 annual report reveals a company still reeling from the global financial crisis, however its first quarter financial results are showing of improvement.

At the end of 2009, the Asian jobs portal operator had a revenue total of MYR92,341,000 (approximately US$28.5 million), down from MYR102,331,000 at the end of 2008. Profit before tax was also down slightly, however the number of jobs posted increased by just under 64,000 positions. The number of job seekers visiting the portal was also up year-over-year by around 1 million unique visitors.

JobStreet summed up its progress in 2009 by saying:

“The Group’s core businesses in all our key markets were affected by the global recession in 2009 although the impact was not as severe as originally feared. The first quarter of 2009 proved the slowest quarter as businesses decelerated amidst tightened credit and lower external demand.

Fiscal stimulus packages announced by governments across the world contributed to stabilize economies from the second quarter onwards before glimpses of economic recovery were seen in the final quarter of the year.”

The company’s statement goes on to explain that this is the third recession it has experienced since it was established in 1995.

For the first quarter of 2010, JobStreet’s revenue is up to MRY27,627,000 from a total of MYR21,752,000 at the end of Q1 2009. Profits are also up to MYR9,321,000 from MYR6,018,000.

Before JobStreet’s first quarter results were announced, Australian jobs portal operator SEEK Ltd increased its stake in the company to 21.35 percent.

Signs of recovery have been visible in a few financial results statements this quarter, and China’s 51Job Inc. is no exception.

In fact, the job portal and magazine publisher is reporting a 42.6 percent boost in Q1 revenue over Q1 2009 totals to RMB254.3 million (US$37.3 million), exceeding the company’s guidance range of RMB230 million to RMB240 million.

51Job says operating income also increased to RMB61.1 million (US$8.9 million) compared with RMB11.7 million in Q1 2009.

“Despite a late Chinese New Year which fell in mid February, the high level of recruitment activity in the post-holiday period drove better than expected revenues, which resulted in significant margin expansion and profitability in the first quarter,” explained Rick Yan, the company’s president and CEO.

“We observed strong market demand as many employers emerged from last year’s challenging conditions with a renewed focus on growth and aggressive hiring targets. During the quarter, we also continued to acquire customers for our online business at a rapid pace.”

51Job says its Q2 revenue target is in the estimated range of RMB250 million to RMB260 million (US$36.6 million to US$38.1 million).

Talent Alliance, a talent management technology provider based in the US and China, has just relaunched securityjobzone.com as part of a new strategy focusing on its technology offerings.

Niche portal securityjobzone.com was first launched in July last year to cover security officer jobs, homeland defense positions, and other related security industry opportunities. Talent Alliance CEO Jeremy Stobie explained the thinking behind the relaunch:

“This release and rebranding of our successful job board is just the first step of our major shift in focus to our technology offerings.

This is the first of multiple major launches for our offerings, both in the United States and in China that we are planning for the coming year. We decided to begin with securityjobzone.com because of the large potential of its market and its existing page rank and number of unique visitors per month.”

In a separate statement, Stobie explained that the effects of the global recession prompted a re-think in company strategy.

“Our business, although focused on technology offerings was heavily concentrated in traditional HR services, which now more than ever is faced with shrinking margins and increased competition,” Stobie says.

Along with the relaunch of securityjobzone.com, Talent Alliance has also acquired a minority stake in HNLY Technology – a privately held electronics and software distributor based in Beijing.

Talent Alliance is also behind militaryjobzone.com, which lists military positions worldwide.

naukri.com’s JobSpeak Index is now up for the fourth month in a row to a total of 1019 for April – the highest since July 2008.

The index shows key industry sectors such as IT software, insurance, banking and ITES are all back to pre-downturn levels, up 48 percent, 82 percent, 67 percent and 44 percent respectively over April 2009 totals.

“The first quarter of the year started on an optimistic note with a jump in hiring sentiment across cities, industries and functional areas,” said Sumeet Singh, national head of marketing and communication at naukri.com parent company Info Edge.

“We can see that the job market has recovered sharply from the depths of gloom and the April job index has surpassed the pre-downturn levels.”

All this means more listings and activity on naukri.com, which has recently introduced Facebook’s new “recommend” button to distribute its content further.

Info Edge reported a 4.24 percent drop in revenue for the quarter ending 31 March, but the company remains optimistic, expecting sales growth of more than 20 percent in 2010/2011.
