gild.com Grabs Spotlight at Disrupt

October 7, 2010 by Alice Allan

US-based technology jobs website gild.com, which passed the 15,000 candidate mark in July this year, was named as one of six start-ups to watch in CNN’s coverage of the recent TechCrunch Disrupt conference.

gild.com offers job listings along with certifications and competitions for job seekers to prove their skills. One current competition, run by Harrah’s Entertainment, is offering the winner of a Java knowledge quiz two nights accommodation in Las Vegas along with a pair of tickets for two shows.

gild.com launched its service globally at Disrupt just over a week ago. According to CNN, gild.com now has 60,000 registered users, and is generating revenue by charging employers for access to these candidates.

“Our idea was all about ‘how can we use scientific methods to improve the process of screening candidates for tech jobs,” gild.com CEO Sheeroy Desai told CNN. “So that was the first couple of years – all offline pen-and-paper stuff.”

In gild.com’s TechCruch Q&A, Desai admitted “We can’t compete against LinkedIn/Facebook in terms of marketing,” but added that there are plans for Facebook and LinkedIn applications to encourage users to communicate and compete.
