Job Numbers Stable in US

July 5, 2010 by Alice Allan

June has been a stable month in terms of online job numbers according to a range of indexes from the US.

Monster’s index is up seven points, with a year-on-year climb of 21 percent. The index shows that online job availability rose in 13 of the 20 industry sectors and in 17 of the 23 occupational categories monitored.

Jobs portal careercast.com and job search service jobserf.com also reported a minor improvement in managerial hiring activity, with their index rising from 89 in May to 92.6 in June.

At The Conference Board, job numbers for June were found to be basically unchanged from May. However, the total number of jobs available online was found to be up over 500,000 nationally during the first six months of 2010.

Meanwhile, careerbuilder.com’s quarterly jobs forecast has found that hiring in the second half of 2010 is likely to mirror the first half, with 41 percent of hiring managers plan to hire in the months of July through December.

“Employers began recruiting at a moderate, but consistent pace in the first half of 2010 as confidence levels inched upward amidst a better global financial picture,” said Matt Ferguson, CEO of careerbuilder.com.

“The economic recovery has broadened, but employers remain guarded. The survey indicates that we’ll see sustainable new job growth through the remainder of the year, but it will be absent of any dramatic shifts.”
