Jobs Up at Monster Europe

June 11, 2010 by Alice Allan

Monster’s European jobs index is reflecting the upward trend seen in the US, with a four percent rise in online worker demand for May.

Monster says this puts online job demand up eight percent year-on-year, which is the first time online job opportunities were above year-earlier levels since October 2008.

The index shows demand increased most in education, training and library, propelled by a seasonal upswing. France had the sharpest monthly increase, closely followed by the Netherlands. Sweden had the strongest annual expansion for a second consecutive month.

“We’re now seeing year-on-year growth for the first time in 19 months, marking a possible point of inflection as employer confidence grows,” said Andrea Bertone, head of Monster Europe.

“It will not be until after the seasonal uptrend that we will be able to assess where we are on the road to recovery,” Bertone added.
