Slight Boost for Schibsted
May 14, 2010 by Alice Allan
First quarter revenue results are in from Norwegian media company Schibsted, which is behind the Spanish infojobs.net, Italian infojobs.it and Swedish jobb24.se.
This quarter, Schibsted reported operating revenues of NOK 3.25 billion – an increase of 1 percent compared to the same period in 2009. Advertising revenues also increased by 6 per cent over the same period.
These increases follow an improved third quarter of 2009 and boosts to revenue and profits in the fourth quarter of the year.
While there was good news for the business overall, Schibsted says revenue was down for infojobs.net as a result of Spain’s weak economy and growing unemployment. However, the company says infojobs.net is maintaining a clear market leader position in terms of traffic.
The question is whether infojobs.net will be able to maintain that number one position, especially in the context of CareerBuilder’s expansion throughout Europe. CareerBuilder is clearly aiming for the number one spot – in September last year, a CareerBuilder company spokesperson went so far as to say careerbuilder.es would be top of the market within 12 months.

It’s hard for me to realize how will Careerbuilder top the spanish leaderboard. They should be #1 in september 2010 (as they said it in september 2009) and currently have only 2.184 vacancies posted, battling in a pack of six or seven job boards, even quite far away from the second player (9.000 vacancies posted) or the leader (31.000 vacancies posted).
This reminds me of a joke:
An old man enters to his doctor’s:
- A close friend of mine sais he has sex three times every night. Please tell me how can I also do that!
- How old is he – the doctor asks?
- 92 – replies the old man -. Tell me what do I have to do!
- Do say you also have sex three times.
Congratulations for your blog (but be careful with analyzing statements like Careerbuilder’s, as Europe is not easy/simple/cheap to be conquered).
Best,
D.
