More Twitter Features from LinkedIn

May 26, 2010 by Alice Allan

With 65 million members and a recent compete.com ranking that places it second amongst US-based jobs websites, LinkedIn has become a force to be reckoned with in online recruiting. Now, the company has announced a new deal with Twitter that could make it even more useful to job seekers.

LinkedIn first teamed with Twitter to synchronise status updates in November last year. Since then, the company says, many users have been requesting a feature to help them find relevant professionals to follow on Twitter.

In response, LinkedIn has upgraded its Tweets application to allow members to find and keep track of their LinkedIn connections on both LinkedIn and Twitter.

Once users have installed the Tweets application, users can access everyone they follow on Twitter, view these Twitter feeds, and tweet from their own account. A new “connections to follow” module has also been added to recommend new people to follow based on users’ LinkedIn connections.

Along with these features, a new “connections” tab shows all the user’s LinkedIn connections who have added Twitter accounts to their LinkedIn profiles, and who they are and aren’t following. Users can also create “dynamic” Twitter lists that are updated as they add new connections to their LinkedIn profiles.

According to LinkedIn, over one million members have added Twitter accounts to their LinkedIn profiles since the networks first integrated in November. That’s still only a small proportion of the total network, but these new features could mean that figure grows substantially, and that more job seekers turn to LinkedIn to find their next position.
