Beauty in the Eye of the Job Board

May 11, 2010 by Alice Allan

New jobs portals looking to make a splash in the marketplace often tout the originality of their business model or comprehensiveness of their listings. beautifuljobseekers.com hasn’t had to do either – it’s basic premise has been enough to attract plenty of attention.

As the name suggests, beautifuljobseekers.com is a job board for people deemed attractive by a public vote. “We’re not saying don’t hire people that aren’t beautiful,” the website explains. “We’re saying here’s a place to hire skilled and talented people that are also beautiful!”

“I figured if no one else is going to close this ugly gap between beautiful job seekers and employers looking to hire them, I’m going to do it myself,” says founder Ralph van Troost.

While Troost’s concept has generated plenty of press in the two weeks since the website’s launch, so far beautifuljobseekers.com is displaying just 22 listings. Single job postings are free, while pricing packages that include resume views start from US$199.

beautifuljobseekers.com admits that companies may not want everyone to know they are recruiting based on looks, and so guarantees that their listings will be 100 percent anonymous, and that contact with candidates can also remain anonymous until the company chooses to reveal itself.
