LinkedIn Now Following Companies

April 30, 2010 by Alice Allan

In a move seemingly inspired by Twitter, LinkedIn has added the option to “follow” companies, promising this will put users on the “inside track”.

A LinkedIn blog post explains this has been one of the most requested features since company profiles were added to the network.

LinkedIn says this underscores the network’s usefulness to job seekers – something that was recently questioned by the results of a survey by theitjobboard.co.uk.

“Starting today, you can be in the loop on new developments, potential business opportunities or even job opportunities by following companies of interest to you,” LinkedIn’s blog post explains. “‘Follow Company’ helps you be among the first to learn about developments at companies like DreamWorks, find job openings at NASA or stumble upon business development opportunities at Netflix.”

LinkedIn currently says it has over 65 million members. Former ask.com CEO and new LinkedIn board member Skip Battle recently told techcrunch.com that the network’s fastest growing user bases are in India, China, and Brazil.
