New usajobs.gov Unveiled
January 25, 2010 by Alice Allan
The US Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has just launched a revamped version of its official jobs website, usajobs.gov.
According to a US government statement, feedback from prospective employees, federal workers, and college students has influenced the redesign, as have social media outlets like Facebook, Google and Twitter.
usajobs.gov now presents job seekers with a simple keyword and location search, along with links to sections for first time visitors, individuals with disabilities, students, and other specialised information.
Last week, the OPM also launched fedshirevets.gov, a jobs website for veterans, transitioning military service members, and their families.
The OPM explains the new website will aim to provide “accurate and consistent” information on employment for veterans in the executive branch.
John Berry, director of the OPM, described the new website as “a one-stop gateway to veterans employment resources throughout the government.”
“Our goal is to honor veterans service by helping them find good federal jobs when they lay the uniform down,” Berry explained.
The website is primarily focused on information about working for the US government, but job seekers can also find positions through a link to usajobs.gov.
The launch of fedshirevets.gov comes after the signing of the Executive Order on the Employment of Veterans in the Federal Government, which established the Veterans Employment Initiative for the executive branch and the Council on Veterans Employment.
