Honours for snagajob.com

Shawn Boyer, founder and CEO of US hourly jobs portal snagajob.com, has been named Virginia’s Business Person of the Year by virginiabusiness.com.

The annual award is given to people who have transformed their companies, their industries or the state’s economy.

According to virginiabusiness.com, the award comes a year after Boyer accepted the Small Business Person of the Year award at a White House ceremony.

Boyer told the website that he invested his family’s savings in snagajob.com, and that it took a year for him to draw a salary from the venture. “Part of it was stupidity,” Boyer said.

snagajob.com says it now has more than 19 million registered job seekers, and was ranked the sixth most popular US jobs website by comScore in June this year.

snagajob.com has also been included in Deloitte’s 2009 Technology Fast 500 list, ranking 165. According to the list, snagajob.com had 2004 revenues of $1,978,000 and made $18,080,000 in 2008, which means it grew 814 percent over the period.
