The latest figures from Nielsen NetRatings show Australian job portal seek.com.au’s unique visitors numbers are continuing to increase, with a total for October of 3.829 million.

Figures quoted by recruitmentdirectory.com.au show a slight drop in careerone.com.au’s total from 1.601 million in September to 1.578 million. mycareer.com.au saw an improvement from 1.189 million in September to 1.249 million.

In what could be an effort to stand out in a market dominated by seek.com.au, careerone.com.au and mycareer.com.au have both launched IT industry specific job boards recently: careerone.com.au partnered with the Information Technology Contract & Recruitment Association to become the jobs supplier for it2.com.au, while mycareer.com.au’s parent company, Fairfax Media, has just relaunched itjobs.com.au.

However, for recruiters at least, a mainstream job board is still the first port of call when sourcing candidates. Research by Australia and New Zealand’s Recruitment and Consulting Services Association quoted on recruitmentdirectory.com.au shows an overwhelming majority of recruitment agencies – between 93 and 96 percent – sourced candidates through mainstream job boards over the past six months. Niche job boards were the third most popular choice after networking events, and in-house job boards came in fourth.
