After recording a sharp rise in August, the Monster Employment Index has registered a slight decrease in the number of jobs advertised online in the US for September.

The Index gathers its figures from career websites and job boards including monster.com. In September, the number of jobs advertised in mining and construction rose, and the number of jobs in the manufacturing sector held steady. Arts, entertainment and recreation jobs recorded the sharpest decline amongst industries, with the number of public administration, healthcare, military, and management and sales jobs also reduced.

Monster’s figures echo those of the US Conference Board, which also recorded a drop in September figures.

“Despite recent improvements in economic sentiment, US employers continue to exhibit caution when it comes to hiring,” said Monster Worldwide senior vice president and chief knowledge officer Jesse Harriott. “On the upside, demand for workers is firming in the blue-collar segment, with welcome signs of revived activity in construction and manufacturing.”
