simplyhired.com was co-founded by Gautam Godhwani. Godhwani previously co-founded Internet company AtWeb, which was acquired by Netscape/AOL in 1998.
As of June 2009, simplyhired.com was the seventh most popular US jobs website according to comScore. It competes with other vertical job search engines such as indeed.com.

A beta version of the simplyhired.com search engine was released in early 2005, and in the same year the website completed a US$3 million round of funding.
In 2006, the search engine received a US$13.5 million strategic investment from News Corporation’s Fox Interactive Media and venture capital firm Foundation Capital.
In 2007, simplyhired.com launched its blogger and web publisher network job-a-matic, and the network grew to include over 1500 members. The following year, SimplyHired websites were launched to cover Canada, the UK, Australia and India.
In March 2009, three new SimplyHired websites were launched for Germany, Spain and France. In July 2009, the search engine expanded with five new website to cover Italy, Ireland, Belgium, the Netherlands and Brazil.
