New Job Matching Tools from careerbuilder.com
September 3, 2009 by Alice Allan

Top US jobs portal careerbuilder.com has launched two new tools to help job seekers find positions outside their area of expertise.
The first is a job search by salary, added to careerbuilder.com’s salary calculator website cbsalary.com. Users search by salary range and location, which leads them to a list of job titles matching that criteria. Each job title links to an outline that lists the training required for the position and its “growth outlook” – a percentage estimate of future growth in that field and the likelihood of unemployment.
The second tool is the “Job Discovery Wizard” on careerpath.com, which allows job seekers to find positions that fit their skills. Users complete a questionnaire about their skills, knowledge and educational qualifications. Matching job titles are then displayed with compatibility ratings, and these can be filtered further by job category. Once job seekers click on a job title, they are shown what other skills and knowledge they need, and links to related job openings are also displayed.
Both tools are part of careerbuilder.com’s strategy to address job seekers’ needs in a challenging market, says Liz Harvey, careerbuilder.com’s senior director of online products:
“Job seekers are not only struggling to find employment, but also to find jobs that match their required salary or skill level. Jobs by Salary and Job Discovery Wizard help job seekers find this important information on both fronts – what positions will allow them to still make ends meet and what is needed to transfer into a new industry or profession. That way they can expand their job search into areas they may not have considered before.”
This latest release for job seekers comes after careerbuilder.com launched brightfuse.com in late August – a free community for workers of all levels and industries to showcase their talents.
