localbacon.com Flips Job Board Model
September 15, 2009 by Emma Sorensen

localbacon.com is a new US jobs board that the company says “was conceived out of frustration at the job search and job application process”.
The site has come to everyone’s attention this week as part of the Techcrunch 50 conference, but also because of its unusual business model.
localbacon.com describes itself as “a job opportunities website that has flipped the model of the traditional job board by charging job seekers $.99 to apply for positions”. Employers and recruiters can post their available positions for free while job seekers receive benefits that no other job board provides including guaranteed feedback from employers and recruiters, standardized listings with 100% handpicked, full-time available opportunities, and real-time updates about their applications.
The idea is to weed out non-serious applicants, and to increase the quality of applications employers receive. But will the “user pays” model work? Only time will tell.
Currently the site only operates in the New York metro area, with plans to expand nationally by the end of 2010.
