Recruitment solution provider Jobvite has just released a new standalone tool it says any company can use to assist with social recruiting.

Jobvite Source searches for free candidate details on social networks and on the Internet at large. The tool also allows employees to refer contacts from their online social networks for positions at their company.

Jobvite explains that, unlike a normal search engine, Jobvite Source finds candidates who match the job description entered as part of its search.

Jobvite quotes statistics that state 42 percent of adults in the US who use the Internet also maintain a profile on a social networking website, and that 80 percent of companies use or plan to use social networks as a recruiting resource.

An enthusiastic review on ere.net puts the starting price for the tool at US$500. Jobvite CEO Dan Finnigan told the website he thinks companies are moving away from paid resume databases and looking to sources such as blogs and online social networks in their search for candidates. “The world has changed to the open Web,” Finnigan is quoted as saying. “What we think recruiters need is a way to integrate with all this stuff.”

The release comes after Jobvite secured $8.25 million in funding earlier this month.
