California based start-up Reputation Networks, Inc has just launched a website it hopes will give individuals the ability to collect and control information about their professional skills.
workscore.com, currently free to use in public beta, is billed as a “social resume” and works by allowing an employee’s colleagues to contribute to a set of data about their skills and achievements. The website has five main sections:
- WorkScore – Colleagues rate and comment on a member’s skills and achievements. Comments can be deleted if the member desires, and individual ratings are given anonymously. Members can also indicate how much weight their colleagues’ ratings should be given.
- Thanks and Recommendations – Members can thank and recommend each other based on contributions they have made to the workplace.
- Rate Your Workplace – Anyone with a company email address can anonymously review their workplace and CEO, as well as leave comments.
- Build Teams – workscore.com is promoting itself as a first step for hiring managers, and is also aiming at company managers by offering tools that document the skills and successes of their team members.
- Rate Companies – Lastly, workscore.com offers the option to review and rate companies that work with members and to send anonymous messages to company CEOs.
Reputation Networks founder Martin Manley, who was appointed Assistant Secretary of Labor by President Bill Clinton and created the Office of the American Workplace, states that reputation management is a key idea behind the new website. “Brands and reputations have moved online, where inaccurate information spreads quickly and can do real damage,” Manley said in a company statement.
According to DigitalBeat, Manley plans to charge for extra data in future that will allow managers to see how their companies compare to other workplaces and let employees see how their skills and ratings compare with those of others applying for a particular position.

I wonder if employee’s name could be seen while posting a feedback to their own company? This should be interesting. I could see how this will turn out if it’s well thought off.
