search.co.uk Acquires hijobs.co.uk
August 11, 2009 by Alice Allan

UK search website search.co.uk has acquired hijobs.co.uk, which lists jobs in the UK’s highlands, islands and the north of Scotland.
A post on the search.co.uk blog says the merged website will include listings from hijobs.co.uk’s specialist oil and gas jobs portal platformjobs.co.uk and will offer 1,500 Scottish jobs and 4,000 UK jobs to over 850,000 jobseekers every month.
Managing director Peter Gillespie explained the acquisition was a way of consolidating search.co.uk’s reach in Scotland – a core market for the website:
“The acquisition is part of our ongoing strategy to build a strong recruitment presence in the Scottish market and improve our ability to market our client vacancies across all regions of Scotland. We see hijobs.co.uk as a perfect fit with our current offer. We will continue to seek partnerships or acquisitions where we feel they add real value to our proposition and help generate quality applications in the areas and sectors where our clients need them.
hijobs.co.uk has already positioned itself as a leading brand for career search in the Highlands, with leading companies such as AWS Ocean Energy, NHS Highland, Global Highland and UHI Millennium Institute as existing customers. The combined jobs sites can only help drive new talent into key sectors such as renewable, technology, education and nursing, just when we need them to support the economic recovery in the north and Highlands.”
hijobs.co.uk was launched three years ago and provides information on moving to the North as well as a course search alongside its job listings.
The current version of search.co.uk was established in 2008. The website provides a search for jobs as well as flights, with other categories such as real estate to be added in the future. search.co.uk currently lets recruiters and companies list for free and pay for the responses they receive for their advertisements.
