bountyjobs.com Faces its Critics
July 23, 2009 by Alice Allan

US based website bountyjobs.com describes itself as “an online marketplace that eliminates the inefficiencies afflicting the recruiting industry”. Through bountyjobs.com, employers are able to post job openings along with a placement fee, and recruiters then submit their candidates until a suitable person is found to fill the vacancy.
The website allows employers to determine the fee they pay recruiters once their position is filled, and states it passes 75 percent of each “bounty” on to the successful recruiter.
bountyjobs.com promotes itself through positive testimonials, however a recent article on cheezhead.com has highlighted a number of criticisms that have been raised about bountyhunter.com on issues ranging from its presentation style to its overall business model.
In response to the criticism, bountyjobs.com vice president of product Jerry Aubin told cheezhead.com:
“Interestingly enough, we don’t get a lot of complaints from users who are successful on the site. Criticism most often seems to come instead from folks who feel threatened by this new model and is most loudly voiced by folks who haven’t used the site much, if at all.”
There are a number of recruitment portals that use a similar model to bountyhunter.com, such as the US dayak.com and UK agreeyourfee.com.
Launched in 2007, dayak.com says it aims to provide an online recruitment marketplace where “employers, staffing firms, recruiting agencies, and independent recruiters can collaborate and work together to get jobs filled more quickly”. The website offers free job posting, and employers and staffing agencies pay only for successful hires.
UK website agreeyourfee.com works on a free advertising model, charging employers and recruiters after they fill a vacancy. Digital recruitment consultancy Niche Moves is behind the website, and explains the website’s business model by saying:
“Employers post jobs as normal but they also get to state how much they want to pay a recruiter to fill the vacancy, the recruiters fee! Recruiters look at the jobs and see if they have a suitable candidate… Then, they have a decision to make – work for the stated fee or wait and see if it goes up. In the meantime another recruiter might already be working to fill the vacancy! It’s a competitive marketplace that keeps everyone on their toes.”
