A Move Away from Job Websites?
July 7, 2009 by Alice Allan

Reports from March this year were that job search websites were seeing record traffic from job seekers, but employers seem to be taking a different path.
The Wall Street Journal is now reporting that employers are retreating to their own websites to list openings, thereby reducing the number of applications they need to sift through. Online social networking is also becoming increasingly important to job seekers as well as employers.
The Wall Street Journal cites Adobe Systems Inc., Sodexo Inc. and Intuit Inc. as examples of companies that have upgraded the employment sections of their websites and are aiming to reach out to candidates through tools such as LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and widgets. Job seekers are also said to be turning to online social networking as a way to connect with a company before sending out an application.
Arie Ball, vice president of talent acquisition at Sodexo, said of the company’s database of potential applicants created through social networking: “Our strategy has been to build this targeted talent pool and to reduce our reliance on job boards and advertising.”
