Rumoured HotJobs Sale No Deterrent

One of the big concerns over rumours of a potential sale by Yahoo! of Yahoo! HotJobs has always been the future of the Yahoo! Newspaper Consortium.
The consortium is the only source of help-wanted-ad revenue for hundreds of US papers, making it quite vital to their success.
However, Reuters have published an article saying that the threat of a sale of Yahoo! HotJobs is not acting as a deterrent to recruiting members to the Yahoo Newspaper Consortium.
In fact, the consortium has just announced five new members: Freedom Communications’ California flagship, The Orange County Register as well as The Gazette in Colorado Springs; the North Jersey Media Group’s The Record and Herald News; and The San Diego Union-Tribune.
This gives the consortium 814 newspaper members, accounting for 51 percent of all Sunday circulation. 592 of these newspapers rely exclusively on HotJobs for help-wanted ads.
Reuters quotes an AdAge estimate which found that the two-and-a-half-year-old consortium sold $50 million in Yahoo ad inventory, with about “several million” dollars in sales being added each week. Meanwhile E.W. Scripps said that the consortium has contributed 30 percent to their online ad revenues in Q1, equating to around $800,000, and Cox Newspaper’s Atlanta Journal-Constitution says it has increased its online audience reach in its home city alone from 15 percent to 80 percent.
Rumours about a sale of HotJobs remain just that at this point: rumours.
