New Social Job Boards Raise Questions
May 19, 2009 by Alice Allan

In a recent post on his website, online recruitment blogger Geoff Jennings announced the launch of the two new social job boards he has created: the sales job focused saleszoo.eggsprout.com and gamerjobs.asia, which lists jobs in the computer games industry.
After working in senior management roles for Fairfax Digital, mycareer.com.au and realestate.com.au, Jennings founded digital and new media company Online Recruitment in 2005.
“There are still folks out there who remain unconvinced of [social job boards’] supremacy over traditional job boards,” Jennings writes in his post. “Or, at the least, there are folks who think this so-called supremacy is a long way off.” So, what do Jennings’ new social job boards offer that traditional job boards do not?
The answer partially lies in the fact that social job boards are not limited to job listings. saleszoo.eggsprout.com combines its sales job listings with discussion forums, Twitter updates, blog posts, and information about events. gamerjobs.asia’s features are similar, but as both websites are extremely new, their content is currently quite sparse.
Of course, some or indeed all of these social media features can be found at many other job search websites. Jennings’ two websites offer something particular in that they cater to niche markets, but whether their social element will make them the go-to websites for job seekers in these areas remains to be seen.
