McClatchy leans on careerbuilder.com
May 25, 2009 by Alice Allan

In an attempt to combat economic woes, US newspaper company McClatchy has decided to move the majority of its print based job classifieds to careerbuilder.com, of which it owns 14.4 percent.
McClatchy owned newspaper The Sacramento Bee reported that the new sales strategy will make the jobs advertised in print newspapers a “complement” to advertising on careerbuilder.com. The newspaper also reports that McClatchy will begin paying sales commissions to advertising agencies.
The new strategy comes in the wake of news that McClatchy has made an amendment to its bank credit agreement that will see the company exchange debt due in 2011 for new debt due in 2014, and first quarter financial results that revealed the negative effects of the global economic downturn on both the company’s print and digital advertising revenues.
After dropping its advertising agency in mid-May, careerbuilder.com recently announced a competition for US workers to create the website’s 2010 Super Bowl advertisement.
