UK Job Seekers Go Mobile
April 27, 2009 by Emma Sorensen

NORAS stands for National Online Recruitment Audience Survey. Created in 2002, the NORAS are run by Enhance Media and are the UK’s leading source of information about the behaviour of online jobseekers.
The NORAS 2009 uses data from questionnaires completed by 52,667 online job seekers across 31 of the UK’s leading job boards – from Guardian Jobs to gumtree.co.uk.
One of the key findings from the latest survey is that an increasing number of online job seekers in the UK are using mobile internet devices in their search for a job.
Almost 10% of online job seekers now use mobile devices such as iphones, Blackberrys or other internet enabled phones to browse the web for jobs. Many of these are high level executives like Chief Executives and Directors, who constitute around 13% of the ‘mobile job seekers’ category.
The report also found that mobile job hunters are more likely to visit job boards to make salary comparisons and conduct research into potential employers than the average online job seeker, and are more than twice as likely to describe themselves as ‘heavy users’ of professional networking sites.
Giles Guest, managing director of Enhance Media, commented:
“The continued growth in the use of mobile internet devices to search for jobs matches the movement we are seeing in the market with job hunting becoming a more regular exercise and less tied to a single location, PC or device. Our goal for NORAS is to provide information like this to employers and particularly to participating job boards so they can deliver a more intelligent, targeted service to their clients and candidates.”
The NORAS results help recruiters choose the job board that has the right audience for their recruitment needs.
