Classified Ad Ventures Acquires hippojobs
April 28, 2009 by Emma Sorensen

Classified Ad Ventures (CAV) has announced the acquisition of Australia’s leading youth jobs classifieds website, hippojobs.com.au.
hippojobs.com.au targets the Australian 15 to 24-year-old demographic (often-called Gen Y) for part-time and casual jobs. It operates nationally and has a vision of connecting employers looking for young people to work for them with the many young people searching for part-time and casual work that suits their lifestyles.
Over 100,000 Gen Y’s have registered with hippojobs.com.au. The company converts this personal information into a detailed resume that employers can access (or have emailed to them) as candidates apply for positions.
Major employers such as Coles, Kmart, David Jones and Salesforce have used hippojobs.com.au and the website also integrates with many third party HR and ad posting systems.
In a statement about the acquisition, Simon Baker, CEO of Classified Ad Ventures said:
“We believe that niche jobs sites are a growing opportunity. Managers have less time than ever to troll through the hundreds of irrelevant CVs they often receive from the general jobs sites. Our investment in ArtsHub shows that by having a targeted audience, we are able to deliver a small number of quality candidates that meet the advertisers’ requirements.
Hippo has successfully matched the youth of Australia with employers of choice for the past 2 years. As part of the Classified Ad Ventures, advertisers and candidates using Hippo Jobs will benefit from a combined 40 years of online classified experience and receive better results.”
hippojobs.com.au is Classified Ad Ventures’ seventh investment.
Classified Ad Ventures was founded by Simon Baker, the former CEO and Managing Director of the REA Group Ltd, in mid 2008. Classified Ad Ventures helps the owners and operators of classified sites around the world and their advertisers gain the most from using the internet to advertise classified listings.
Classified Ad Ventures provides consulting services to the owners and operators of classifieds sites, develops new products and services in its incubator, and invests in opportunities through CAV Investment Holdings Pty Ltd. Investments to date have been in online real estate and jobs websites, including artshub.com.au, and most recently in Asian property portal group IPGA.
Chris Vulovic, the head of Classified Ad Ventures’ innovation team, will oversee the hippojobs.com.au. James Masini, General Manager and founder of Hippo Jobs, will continue to be involved in the company.
Classified Ad Ventures is the owner of jobsportalwatch.com.
